Timing Your Child's First Dental Visit

A very common question is: "When should my child's first dental visit be?" We would love for your child to establish a "dental home" as soon as they are one year old. Simply by bringing your child in for a "knee to knee" oral evaluation can help acquaint the child with our office and allow us to check that their dental development is on track.

This knee to knee exam allows mom or dad to hold the baby while the dentist is able to visualize the child's teeth. When your child is toddler age it is a good time to do a more comprehensive evaluation and a gentle cleaning.

Bringing your child in at a young age allows for:

• The child to have positive and comfortable dental experiences and establish a good foundation for oral care.
• Dr. Kalebjian and Dr. Khater to give important oral hygiene information to the parents such as brushing techniques and foods to help keep your little one's teeth healthy and strong.
• Us to check your child's tooth development and screen for conditions that may need treatment.

How We Make Your Child Comfortable at His/Her Dental Visit

Of course our job is to keep your little one's teeth healthy and strong, but it is most important to do this in a way that makes them feel safe and comfortable. At their first visits when they are especially young we let their comfort level dictate their experience.

When they are toddler age, we use the "tell-show-do" technique. We believe your child should have an active role in understanding all aspects of their exam and cleaning. This helps build trust and familiarity with our staff and the tools we use.
