DENTAL EXAMS AND CLEANING

There is no better way to care for your teeth than to brush and floss daily. It is also essential to get a dental exam and cleaning every six months--that's just twice a year! We know you are busy so these appointments are generally about 45 minutes to an hour, not a bad investment of time to ensure your dental health.

What Happens During an Exam?

At Fresno Dental Works, Dr. Kalebjian and Dr. Khater aim to perform a thorough dental evaluation. This exam includes a comprehensive evaluation of your medical history, medications, dental history and any concerns you may have for your teeth.

A radiographic analysis with x-rays is performed to detect cavities and evaluate the health of the and bone around the teeth. We use only digital x-rays in our office as they offer significantly less radiation to our patients. Our dentists then evaluate your teeth and complete a soft tissue evaluation to screen for oral cancers. The gums are gently and thoroughly probed to check for periodontal (gum) disease.

Then the dentist will examine the teeth and note existing dental work and any cavities or restorations that are no longer doing their job. After a discussion with you regarding your goals and findings from the exam, Dr. Kalebjian or Dr. Khater will recommend treatment options and alternatives. Our goal is to provide you treatment that fits into your lifestyle while maintaining function, esthetics and most importantly restoring your oral health. All your dental related questions and concerns will be addressed.

Routine Dental Cleanings

You take your car to get an oil change regularly to keep it running, it is also important to get a dental cleaning at least every six months to keep not only your teeth, but the foundation your teeth depend on, the bone and gums, healthy.

Periodontal (gum) disease is an infection of the gums and bone surrounding the teeth, it affects most adults in the United States and it is preventable! The gum and bone are the foundation for your teeth, if bacteria filled plaque is allowed to sit on the teeth and gums for too long (by not brushing or flossing) inflammation begins to affect the gums and bone which can cause them to recede. This means that your teeth will be supported by less bone which can cause loosening of teeth, pain, swelling, infection or even premature loss of teeth.

As mentioned before, periodontal disease is preventable by simply brushing and flossing your teeth daily and getting professional dental cleanings in our office at least twice a year. At your cleaning a dentist or registered dental hygienist will use instruments to remove the plaque and hard calculus deposits from your teeth and under the gums. The teeth are then polished and a fluoride treatment is recommended to keep your teeth strong and prevent cavities. Any questions you have about your oral hygiene regimen will be addressed at this visit.

Your teeth work hard for you every day, it is important to maintain them daily with regular oral hygiene but also get a check up with a dental professional to ensure that your smile stays bright and healthy throughout life.
